1996 Toyota Tercel

I have a 96 toyota tercel and purchased an engine from a 97 to swap. Doesn't fit. Are they really different or did they send the wrong engine?

Here is what I found for a fit. 7/94 to 98 Toyota Tercels, Paseo with federal emission from 8/95 to 97, Paseo with calif emission from 9/94 to 97 with an 5EFE engine with 16 valve with cam and crank sensors without a distributor. Hope this helps.
