1995 Toyota Tacoma vapor lock

Hello,

Can you describe what is happening with your vehicle.

You say it vapor locks when hot outside.... Well FYI but with you vehicle being Fuel Injected Vapor Lock does not happen....

Qhen it's hot outside and I drive my truck to town, it will not start without either waiting an hour or so or pumping and holding down the gas pedle for repeated times. It's like trying to start a Bonaza with fuel injection, I use the hot start method in the flight manual.

Ok, another FYI - Pumping the gas pedal does Nothing on a fuel injected vehicle except open and close the butterfly in the throttle body and allows more air into the engine. No gas is injected using the gas pedal.


Now a couple posibilities are the Control Module Failing when Hot or the Fuel Pump Failing when Hot.

Have you noticed whether or not the fuel pump kicks in when vehicle won't start?

Have you checked for Spark when vehicle won't start?

Hi, I have this problem with my 96 tacoma. It is a manual so if I can give a push and pop the clutch that gives it a spark to start. But otherwise I just have to let it cool down before it will start again.

More than likely this is a dirty sensor. Try unplugging the intake air temp sensor and see if it starts. If it does then I would clean this sensor and the connectors. Since you are there, I would suggest cleaning the air flow meter as well.

These sensors are used to determine the proper amount of fuel to inject. If they are not reading properly then it will not supply enough or too much fuel and won't start. It may be worth while that when it is doing this to go ahead and pull a couple plugs and see if they are fuel soaked.
