1996 Toyota Rav4 Engine Size unknown Four Wheel Drive Manual 129000 miles

I was told that I had an oil leak with my regularly scheduled oil change. I took it to my regular mechanic who said that they could take care of the gaskets but would recommend that I might want to take it to the Toyota delearship. In addition to the gasket they said I needed the time belt and battery replaced. Is this really necessary?

At 129,000 if the belt hasn't been done yet, yes it is really needed! Unless you want to buy a new engine when the belt breaks, most states require 60,000 mile changes, Cal and MA require 105,000! You are past all expectations!

Since when can a state tell you when to change your timing belt? Hogwash.

I'm not saying it shouldn't be done, but that is ridiculous.

Listin lost.I did not say a state tells you anything. They tell the manufacturer what they REQUIRE. Look into it before you run your mouth.
