It was recommended that at 60K I change the timing belt. However, when I took my truck in for service at that time - I was told that it was not necessary. At present, I hear a noise like a belt may be worn. What do you suggest as far as the timing belt? What should be the price of repair - high/low? Thanks.

Hi there,

If you have a concern about a noise you should insist that they inspect, as if it is a timing belt or pulley, water pump problem and it fails, you will be up for a very large repair bill. To have the belt replaced will take about 2 Hrs, so this is not a huge expense for piece of mind. Timing belts should be replaced depending on the engine around the 100 K Kms, or 90 months.
