Engine Performance problem
1994 Toyota MR2 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 92K miles

Hi I have a 1994 MR2 import that until recently was very quick and very reliable, Now it is so slow moving off or to change up gears that the revs jump up a lot so it sounds terrible just to get it moving, then at about 4.5k it kicks in and it then jumps off. This is the same when it it running in gear. Any ideas?

Do you have a check engine light and when was the last tune-up?

You sure its not being caused by a slipping clutch could also be the following

Oxygen sensor
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

No check engine light comes on, and the power is only a problem when trying to go faster. Runs ok after 5k revs but below there is a lag even without gear change. Will see if I can locate some of the sensors you have mentioned and work out how to test them, thanks.
