Toyota 3F Engine Stalling

My SUB engine stopped running while stopped in traffic, since the air filter light turned on, I removed the filter, but the problem continued, I drove back to my house without filter, and the car backfired a bit, then I installed again the filter but when the engine goes below 1500 rpm, it sputters and turns off. Is there a sensor or anything else I should check?

Every time I get water on the engine of my 4.5 petrol 80 series landcruiser it will not let me go above 2000 rpm and if it does it will shut the engine down then start again once it drops below 2000 rpm

Just got my truck out of the shop about a month ago, had a magor tun-up and oil change and a window motor replaced. I have also had a new radiator, new belts, altanator, new battery and new terminals. The begining of the week it started to idel up and down in park only once in drive it would idel a little high but did not go up and down. It did that for a couple of day and then when I stopped at a red light almost died, I put it in park and gave it gas, when the light turned green I put it in drive and had to stop at a stop sign and it died. I was able to jump it but it died again. The windows still work but it would not start. The shop I took it to before said it sounded like a mass air flow sensor so that has been replaced with a 92 toyota landcruiser air flow sensor. It still will not start or stay running. Any suggestions would be apprieciated.

I do not understand the terminoligy you are useing.

My college son had run out of gas last week. Ever since he has had problems with the car running for 5-10 minutes and then it begins running rough, and then stalls.

Today he startes and it ran for a few minutes and then stalled out. We checked alternator and it seems okay. Do not notice any electrical problems with lights or radio.

We had a new fuel pump put in about 6 months ago.

Any suggestions on what may cause this problem and how we can remedy the problem?

Hi. We have a 1991 toyota landcruiser 80s series 3fe efi engine that has about 220000 on the clock. The car first stalled while driving in June 2006! At that time it stopped completely and the problem was with the main relay. However alot of other stuff was replaced before the original fault was found, including fuel pump, solenoid, ignition coil, rotor, fuel and air filter, spark plugs. And ecu was removed and checked. The car was towed to an auto electrician who discovered the efi relay was faulty and replaced it. When we finally got the car going again the stalling problem started. It can happen anytime and at any speed although it doesnt seem to happen while idleing. Usually it starts again almost immediately and will run fine until the next stall. The problem became an almost daily occurance, happening each time we drove it. We took it back to the auto electrician who had it for 3 weeks but couldn't find the problem. We tried another auto electrician who said he couldn't fix it. In desperation we took it to a mecahanic about 2 hours away who came highly recommended. The car is now with the very patient mechanic who has had the car since january. He diagnosed the distributor as the problem, after checking codes and using a portable computer. Apparently there are 2 sensors in the distributor and because this model land cruiser was only made for about 18 months we had to order the part from the usa.( We are in Australia) the car has stalled once since the new part was installed. About a month ago. It took about 20 mins to start that time and the code showed the same fault code (ignition signal 2 fault I think) the mechanic still has the car and seems to think it will happen again. He is driving the car every day in an attempt to duplicate the stall. Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated. I should add that before the distributor was replaced the car was stalling while driving very frequently. At least each time it was driven. Could the distributor not being an original toyota part cause the one fault that has occured since the part was replaced. Please help! The mechanic doen't want to return the car until he is sure it is fixed, could it be that it wont stall again? How will we know that the car is not going to stall again and the problem is gone for good. The car runs fine when it isn't stalling when it stalls it is a total lack of power, like someone has turned off the car. We have four children and dont have a car we can all fit in. Spoke to the mechanic today and car stalled momentarily today. Unfortunately while the portable computer was on another car. Mechanic seems to think the new distributor is faulty. Please does anyone have any idea?

Just thought I would let you know we got our landcruiser back today. And drove about 150 kms home with no problem. Our mechnic found that the problem was with the wiring in the engine harness. In particular wiring to the distributor! The stalling problem got progressively worse and on one occasion when the car wouldn't start long enough to drive, the mechanic began to wiggle random wires and discovered the one at fault. So far the car has done about 800 kms with no problem. It was a long process to find the fix and all thanks to a mechanic who wouldn't give up. Hope this info helps someone in the future! The car idles but hunts and stumbles, will die out after awhile.
