would the linkage on my car prevent the car from starting,if not what else could it be

Hi there,

you have not given me a great deal to work with, but at a staring point, if you are concerned with the gear selector, Yes if it is badly worn or out of adjustment the isolator switch may be affected or the switch is faulty in it's self.
