2005 Toyota Corolla Check engine light cruise controll swit

Check engine light comes on, gas peddle is disabled, must shut car off, restart works ok for a while. Took the care too Auto zone or a free computer look up codes, they said its either a cruise controll switch open or short or a brake switch open or short. I believe its the cruise control switch as it is rarely used. When the problem first started happening, I turned the cruise control on, then after a while with it set, it just shuts off on its own.
Would this be something I could fix myself. I hate going too the Toyota dealer and have them charge me $120 just too put it on the computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Use car repair manual link in this thread or get a Haynes manual. Read instructions (if you want to do it yourself) then make judgement as to the complexity of repair, or any special tools you may have to buy.

You could aslo replace brake switch, if problem persists, then the Cruise switch is problem.
