how do i know if the piston is burned

Perform a compression test, if piston is burned, compression will be significantly lower.

It would be unusual for a burned piston in a Toyota. Generally it would be caused by a very lean A/F ratio and if just one cylinder, most likely a fuel (lack of) issue on that cylinder. It is also possible the piston was a bad casting to begin with.
