I have a 1999 toyota corolla with 51,000 miles on it. During the last few days, when I turn the ignition key to stat the car sometimes it just doesn't start the first time or the second time. I check the interior and head lights and it seems there is enough current in the battery. Somebody told me that this maybe a starter problem. Do you think this is the case, and if it is, how I can change the starter. Thank you for your help. Alfonso

Do you have a check engine light and when was the last major tune-up?

when I turn the ignition key to stat the car sometimes it just doesn't start the first time or the second time.

Do you mean it cranks over and refuses to start at times or won't crank engine over sometimes?

1999 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 51000 miles

I haven't seen the engine light come on and I did the major tune up when the car had 30,000 miles.
When I turn the key the first time, the car doesn't do anything. The second time it cranks over but refuses to start. The third I turn the key the car starts like if there was no problem with it. Sometimes it starts at the second time I turn the key.

sounds like the starter solenoid....may have dirty or faulty contacts in starter.
