1999 Toyota Corolla help

My check engine light is flashing, and when I push the gas pedal it pulses. It also backfires sparatically.

Most repair shops and auto parts stores can pull the check engine code that has tripped the light on the dash with a hand held code reader. They won't likely charge you to check it out. You need to know what made the light come on before you can fix anything.
