I just bought 3 months ago and the tranny is going, I'm wondering if I should fix tranny because I noticed it is burninng a quart 5-20 valvoline every 1500 miles, engine runs great, 38 miles on highway, sould I fix tranny, will engine last another 100,000. Does burning oil mean engine is done also?thank you

Have a compression test performed to test piston rings. If rings are bad, then engine is on the way out.

But could also be the valve stem seals.

You can fix trans, or get a used one and install, it will be cheaper than a rebuild or new one.

Industry standard is 1 quart every 1,000 miles, above that, you need engine repair.

Why 5-20 oil? Toyota usually reccommends 5-30.
