When attempting to accelerate, usually below 3000 rpm's but not always, I experience a hesitation/loss of power. I have found that if I back off of the gas a little, the hesitation usually goes away but then I am left accelerating very slowely or not at all. The problem is worse when climbing hills and has occurred even when the rpm's are above 3000. The problem seems to be worse when the engine is warmed up and occurs more often when the car is in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. I recently put some STP fuel injector cleaner through it and then changed the oil and there was no change. The problem is somewhat intermittent.

First check fuel pressure with mechanical gauge, should be above 40psi and hold that reading when fuel pump is off, if it drops rapidly, the fuel pressure regulator, or an injector leak.

If pressure is OK, then check spark, spark should be a blue snapping spark, anything else is considered no spark, so replace wires, cap, rotor, plugs. If problem persists, then coil or ignition module.

If ignition module, then it is actually cheaper to buy a remanufactured dist. with module than the module alone.
