In attempting to remove the driver's side trans axle from my 1992 Toyota Corolla, I ran into a few major problems. First, the axle hub nut was rusted and would not budge, even with an air impact wrench. I had to remove the wheel assembly completely to get it out of the car. Therein lies the problem. When I pulled the wheel/axle assembly from the transmission, the inboard CV housing stayed connected to the transmission. I have no idea how to remove this piece. I can't get screwdrivers in position to pry it out. I can jiggle it around and rotate the piece around with the tranny in neutral, but that's it. Any advice how to remove this piece would be appreciated. I need to replace both trans axles.

Incidentally, the axle hub nut was finally removed by breaking it in two and then pressing the axle out with a hydraulic press.
