I tried to answer this but I'm not sure it worked so I'll try again.
No it's not for cruise control. It's the switch on the clutch that allows the car to start. THANK YOU

Well things you learn, we don't have them fitted in Australia, But it will only be a screw in switch similar to the brake light switch, Have a look at it and you should see how it's fitted, but just in case i will look one up and advise if different type of mounting.

Hi, I went out this morning and put some extra padding between the clutch and the switch but it didn't change anything, so I guess that's not the problem. I topped off the battery cells - no difference. Now I'm thinking maybe the ignition switch or the starter. :-)

Hi there,

It may not just be a problem with the through of the switch, you will have to check continuity, that is that there is power through the switch when operating, check by removing the two wires and bridge them out. if it starts the switch is faulty, if still nothing we will have to look further, let me know, and i will find a wiring diagram to inspect for other potential problems.

I go back and forthe between the switch, it seems to help when I jiggle the key when I start it, and the battery, it has been a bit slow to turn over once or twice. I am waiting on a friend with a bettery charger to test it.
