Brake and battery warning lights just came on at arrival at work. Belts are intact I think. Temp did not rise in the short time before parking. I need to get home (12 mi.)

Sounds like the alternator isnt working. Toyotas will light the brake light as well as the batt light when it isnt charging. Not sure if it will make it 12 miles or not, wouldnt take the chance

Exactly what Jack said, the alt. Is bad. Honda's will do the same thing (bat and brake) light will come on.

While you may be able to get a cheap alt. Somewhere, make sure you get the exact alt. For your car, Toyota made 3 different model alternators for that year.
