I've been driving my car for the last 3 years that was passed on to me by my late grandmother. The heater in the car works great, but I'm not sure if she opted for air conditioning service in the car b/c it never blows cool air. If my car is in a cool spot away from the sun, it'll blow a slightly cool air but once my car is out in the heat it'll just blow air from outside. With the summer fast approaching I don't think I can stand another hot summer in my car. How much will it cost to install air conditioning and do I need a mechanic to do it for me?

1990 models used R12 freon which although still available is VERY expensive. You can find shops that can refill with R12, but it would probably be a better idea to convert to R134a (the new freon).
Although it may cost a little more for the 134a conversion, it is a better choice, long term.
Cost would be $400-600 depending on what you choose, but there is a fineite amount of R12 available, so once it is gone, your only choice is R134a.
