If the CV joint is bad (clicking,poping,grinding noise, especially when turning). I would replace the entire axle assy. with a reman. unit.
You can get a reman. unit for $60-100, this is far easier that disassembling the inner and outer joints and re-booting them.

You should check the CV boots periodacally, looking for rips in the rubber boots. A tear will cause the lubricant to leak out and water/debris to enter the joint causing failure.
