Hi, I have a 1988 Toyota Corolla FX Automatic and it has a transmission problem. It wil not shift from 1st gear and it has a whinding sound coming from the transmission. Sometimes it will shift but most of the time it won't. I think it might be the shift sensor, but I don't know.Plus before it messed up I had to let of the gas so it would shift. Can you please help me,Thank You very much.

When was the last time it had a transmission service fluid/filter. The only way to know whether the tranny has an internal problem is to get it pressure tested.

Or you can give the throttle position sensor and the vehicle speed sensor a check-these sensors tells the computer the indications of throttle and governor pressure as input signals
