Engine Performance problem
1986 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I will copy the details of the problem as sent to me via email from my Daughter.

It revs really high and kind of jolts the car forward when i brake, like the accelerator and the brakes are fighting eachother. When i pull up and put it in park, the revs go through the roof like its gonna blow up!
First time my mechanic gave the throttle cable a wiggle, said it was stiff, sprayed it with some lube n sent me on my way.
Second time RACQ came out n did the same thing but told me i need a new carberator, so i bought a 2nd hand re-conditioned one and asked my friend (who is a mechanic specialising in carberators) to put it in for me. He had a look, took it for a drive and said my carbie was fine but didnt wanna leave till he found what the problem was. He found that...where the cable runs up and over a thing called a 'butterfly' (kind of runner/guide) there was a nut missing so the cabel was slipping off.He also turned my idle down n its been perfect untill...
Third time i put my foot down a bit to get up a hill and it happened again. I got home, called RACQ n he did the whole 'i told you to replace the carbie'! After looking he found that...something wasnt connected (i cant remember the name?) but baisicly, when i put my foot down n my secondarys opened up to give me extra power to get up the hill...it wasnt being pulled back to the normal level once i took my foot off?
He fixed it n said i should still change the carbie.Since then it stalls in the mornings and idles so low i have to 'double foot it' (one foot on the break but one very lightly on the accelerator) at lights cos i think its going to conk out!
I did pay $120 for a service about 6 weeks before the first incident and was given the all clear...although he hadnt topped up all the fluids n i had to do break and power steerin myself!
