I have a 2000 Toyota Celica GT 5-speed. The other night I was driving along in 5th gear and as I pressed the peddle, my rpms continued to rise but I was not accelerating like I was supposed to. I knew almost instantly that my clutch was beginning to burn out because my brother went through this less than 2 months ago. I found a new clutch kit on the internet and I will have someone put it in professionally. My only question is what else do they need to do besides put it in? I know something about having to resurface the flywheel but is there anything else along these lines that should be done? And How much should I be looking to pay for the labor of replacing the clutch kit?

Hi there.

Re machine the fly wheel and make sure the clutch kit has a new thrust baring, there is no spigot bearing to worry about, it is a good time to flush the clutch fluid and I would replace the drive shaft seals in the transmission, they do not cost much, and it is some piece of mind. As for labour, about 4-5 Hrs at what ever the local rate is should see it right.
