I noticed the last post about oil leaking in a high mileage Celica. What is a reasonable cost estimate to replace the Rear Main Engine Oil Seal? Is it between $750-$900? Do any of the "Stop Leak" additive products do any good? Or, are they just higher viscosity oils that take more heat to liquify and leak?

HI there,

The book time is around 7 Hrs to do a rear main seal, so check tour local labour rate and allow some for a seal and transmission oil. As for the stop leaks, some are just petroleum based muck that swells the seal for a while, but it also attack other seals in th engine, don't waste your money, fix it right the first time.
