I have a 1993 Toyota Camry LE, 175,000 miles, 4cyl. The problem is when I press the gas pedal sometimes the car does not move. I have had to press the pedal all the way to the floor and even then the car only moved at about 10 miles per hour. Sometimes the car also jerks before finally taking off. I was told that my car needs a new transmission and I'm trying to find out if this seems correct.

Try check these sensors-CTS,MAF,and TPS before you condemn the tranny.
