.. Hey Car Pro's, about 3 weeks ago I notice a burnt rubber smell coming from the Passenger side under the hood of my car.. I took it to a mechanic that said the water pump had a leak.. Having had experience with the water pump leakage, I dont think this is the issue.. There's no overheating, I've been watching the temperature and rpm.. everything seems normal.. In fact the only leakage I get it the water coming from the A/C..

Well, I stopped smelling the scent.. But now my car is making a LOUD rattling noise from the same area (near the engine and the fan/timing belt).. The noise starts as soon as I turn on the ignition.. What could this be? How much will it cost to repair?

Could it be an accessory (Power steering pump, water pump, alternator, ac compressor...) is locking up and burning the belt? Could that have been the smell?

If so, remove the belt and start the car to see if the noise goes away. Only allow it to run a few seconds because it will overheat.

Let me know what you find.
