My light came on when it was time for a oil change but I had not reached the mileage. I don"t drive far so with the first crank it would blank a few times then go off but tonight it blanked and stayed on is that normal.
Do you
have the same problem?

Most likely it was not reset correctly last time it was done
it should be OK to drive with maintenance light on or blinks
the light serve as a reminder only and have no other effect on the vehicle

Your owners manuel should have the steps you need to follow to clear this light. It is not cleared automatically when maint. Is performed. These steps are required. The light will come on again after a pre-set number of miles and this procedure will have to be repeated each time.

Electrical problem
2005 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive 20000 miles

the maintenance req'd light is on and it isnt the gas cap being on wrong. I also just had the oil changed.

Should I go to a mechanic or is it just some quirk with that light. Had the oil level checked and it the right level and color.

Hi there,

You will need to visit your mechanic as there is an unresolved fault code in the ECU, there will be able to do a scan to read this code and this will give you information on the faulty component.

I am changing the oil for the first time since I bought the car, I'm not the original owner. I need to know how to reset the engine maintenance light on the dash. I looked in the guide and did not find any description there.

Turn the key on and set the trip meter to odometer. Turn the key off. Depress and hold the trip meter button and turn the on while still depressing the trip reset button. The odometer screen will display 5 dashes, then 4 then 3, 2, 1, then all zeroes. Done. If it doesn't work try the same procedure starting from the "trip A" screen.
