I have a 2003 Toyota Camry 4 cylinder with 160,000 miles. The other day the oil pressure light flickered so the car was shut off and the oil checked. The oil level was 1/2 between add and full.

1 Quart of oil was added and the car driven home. The oil light came on solid about a block away from home. The engine now has a knock when reved up. The oil light is on goes off when the car starts.

Is it possible to just change the rod bearings and oil pump which I assume failed and possible get the car going again?

Can the oil pan be pulled in the car and the crank loosened and rod caps removed to replace the main and rod bearings it the damage to the crank is not too severe.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation.

The sump will come off easily, you can do the big end bearings and the oil pump but you will not be able to drop the crank to do the main bearings, if you unbolt the torque converter and slide it back far enough, you may just get enough clearance to do the mains, but I have never done it this way so I can't be sure it will work.
