My moms water pump exploded, and it took out a fan belt. Has anyone ever heard of this? The guy at the repair shop said he had never seen anything like that. How could it have happened? I thought it might have froze over, but it happened during the summer. Any one have an idea of how it happened?

Never have i had this personally, the only thing i can think of causing this is a blown headgasket i mean horrifically blown but the heater hoses would blow up.

it was probably made of subquality parts. if the bearings locked up all of a sudden it may have caused this. but it isnt going to ExplodE.
