After the car sits for any extended period, typically overnight, a grayish smoke comes out of the exhaust when i start it in the morning. What could this be?

Hi amylou1222,

This is an indication that oil is being burnt in the cylinders and the most likely place for oil to get into the cylinders when parked are via the valve stem seals.

Seals tends to wear/harden over time and usage and would cause the problem.
