2000 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
Okay, first off, the engine on the car has been knocking. I don't know what the problem is with the knocking. Other than the knocking (only at high RPMs) the car ran, started, drove perfect. One day I was taking it to a friend's house to let him here the noise. I was driving about 30 mph and the car just died. It wouldn't even try to turn over to start. It would give just one click and then nothing else. All of the accessories worked fine (radio, power windows, lights). I tried to jump the car off but that wouldn't do anything, made no difference. After researching I thought it might be the connection. I bought some battery cables, and took the battery out. My father in law showed up and wanted me to try to crank it. So I hooked the battery back up to the old cables and the car cranked right up. When I went to drive away it died when I let off the gas. We had to mess with the old cables for several minutes before the car would crank again, and when it did we had to constantly give it gas to keep it from dying. All the way home we had to give it gas at stops to keep it running. I haven't tried to do anything, not even crank it, since then. Any ideas as to what the problem could be? Would bad connection be helped by giving it gas? If it was the starter would it have died while driving? I am stumped. Thank you for your help!!!
