Check engine code p0449

Electrical problem
2000 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 129000 miles

Hello everyone! The check engine light has come on in my car and the diagnostic code I get is P0449. "P0449 Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve/Solenoid Circuit Malfunction"

Looking for advice. I was thinking to try and start simple and just replace the gas cap but wanted to check the forum first.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi Greg,

Thank you for the donation.

You are correct about the code and description but for Camry, this code does not apply. Can you please reconfirm it?

For the gas cap, it usually would show as P0442.
For Camry EVAP system codes are P0440, P0441, P0442, P0446, P0450 and P0451.

Here is a description of the possible causes and it is not caused by the gas cap.
Most likely problem would be the VSV valve located are rear near to fuel tank. however it could be any of the valve suystems and the diagnostics are rather extensive. Would you like to do the diagnostics your self?
