How often do bushings needs to be replaced? Is that expensive? (can you give just a ballpark range?) This is our only car, so it is driven frequently. I don't know if weather is also a factor; we live in Baltimore.

HI there, there are a number of various bushes in you car, suspension front & rear, chassis and sub-frame mountings, engine mountings as well, often they will last for years, but can deteriorate with fluids such as oil & petrol leaking onto them, when worn you may hear knocks or squeaks, and with suspension & steering you may have vibration & tyre wear issues, these should be checked at each service so you can see if some are starting to cause you a problem, they won't fail over night, so with periodic inspections you will have ample time to have them done, as for costs they all vary in price and labour to replace.
