A couple of weeks ago we noticed our Camry running louder than usual. The noise appears to be coming from the exhaust system directly under or slightly back from the engine. I can't see any holes in the exhaust, catalytic converter or muffler. But I did notice another device that looks like a muffler under the engine.

What is that device, and if it the source of the exhaust hole how much does it cost to replace?

You most likely have a flex pipe leaking. Its the pipe wrapped in mesh. Don't know how much it would cost. Figure about 100 to just replace the flex pipe. If yu want to know. Get a bunch of rags and plug the exhaust and have someone feel around to see where it is leaking.
