Initiially my car wouldn't heat. As I was driving home it began toknock and as I was backing nto my garage, I noticed smoke under the hood.

Is it out of fluids or what is the problem?

Have you checked the coolant level. If you have no heat coming from vents when heat is on, and its smoking and knocking. I would not advise driving the vehicle. Most likely you are low on coolant due to a leak. The cooling system would need to be pressure tested to confirm.
