Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I was driving about 40mph when I ran up on a curb hard enough to destroy my tire and rim. I kept driving, (about another block to change my tire,) and the car started running VERY rough. I was too far from home to leave it, and it ran down the highway okay, (sorta.) If the cruise was set and it would shake uncontrolably until you either gave it gas or let off the gas. It idles VERY rough and you can smell gas while it's idling.

My 96 camry had the same problem... What my problem was was the motor mounts. They have a gel inside them and after a while that gel gets hard and rough use makes them not work anymore try getting those checked

Thanks for the input. I actually thought of that and checked them out, but that wasn't it. I FINALLY found the problem. It was the MAP Sensor. I hit that curb so hard, it broke the vacuum line off of it. I laughed as I pulled it off and said to my wife, "that little piece is probably 300.00 bucks....." Uhm....it was actually $253!!!! I found an import salvage yard and pulled one off a '93 Camry and gave them 10 bucks for it!! Runs like a champ!
