Shakes or Wobbles problem
1996 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Automatic 160000 miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
I JUST BOUGHT A USED 1996 TOYOTA CAMRY AND AT FIRST THE CAR RAN GOOD. THROUGH TIME WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO MAKE NOISE WHEN I TURNED IT. I HAD THE MECHANIC LOOK AND SAID IT WAS A PUMP THAT NEED TO BE CHANGED, BUT NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON AND CAR SEEMS TO SHAKE WHEN AT A STOP, THEN WHEN I BEGIN TO DRIVE IT- DRIVES OFF SLOWLY AT FIRST THEN GOES QUICKER. WHEN AT A HIGHER SPEED SOMETIMES IT SEEMS TO HAVE A MOTION OF SLOW THEN QUICK, SLOW THEN QUICK. WHEN USED TO MUCH, OR TO LONG OR WHEN AIR CONDITIONER IS ON IT BEGINS TO SHAKE AGAIN, LIKE IT IT WANTS TO TURN OFF OR RUNNING OUT OF GAS. WHAT CAN THIS BE AND HOW EXPENSIVE CAN THIS GET?

Hi JULESALMO,

Is the power steering fluid level ok? low fluid willl also cause the noise.

You need to extract the error code from the ECU to know what the check light is about.

The surging during driving might be due to a clogged fuel filter which causes insufficient fuel supply.

The vibration during idling could be due to low idling speed. There is an AC idle booster which can be adjusted to increase the idling when the AC cuts in.

Cleaning the throttle body would also be recommended.
