Steering problem
1996 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 170k miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My car steering is very stiff like there is no power steering. I changed the pump but there was no change. Is there a way to rule out the steering rack or not? Or is there something else I should look at first. The steering is not completely gone it is very spuratic it use to come and go and be good for a week then bad for a week.

Hi there,

If the pump was a new or fully re-co unit and it is adjusted correctly, i would be suspecting the steering rack as there is really nothing else in the system to go wrong, may be best to check for a seized lower ball join, strut bearing plate or faulty tie rod end, there is nothing else to cause a problem, you will just have to have each item checked and ruled out.
