1994 Toyota Camry car is at 35oo rpm at idle

1994 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

my car is idling at 35oo rpm im afraid its gonna blow up the engine. if i put it in gear it shifts very hard and the idles so high i do 4omph without touching the accelerator what the heck do i do with this and how do i fix it? please help im desperate thank u

Hi there,

\Remove the throttle cable from the butterfly linkage at the throttle body, check for a binding cable, it should move smoothly, remove the air intake hose and check that the butterfly valve is not stuck open, clean the throttle body with throttle body cleaner and check that on vacuum hose has come of or is leaking in any way, start here.
