I was driving yesterday when the car just cut off. No warning. There is half tank of gas, the oil level is fine. When I try to start the car it sounds like there isn't any gas; it seems like it's trying to start but can't. Any ideas what the problem might be?

Could be a clogged fuel filter, bad fuel pump, clogged screen in tank, bad ign. coil, bad ignition module (does this have a distributor)? If not, crank sensor, coil pak(s).
I would guess ignition related. Check fuel pressure with a mechanical gauge.
If you want to do the work yourself, get a Haynes manual for that year. Then eliminate fuel first (the fuel level senders can go bad, so you may be out of gas).
