I have a 1992 Toyota Camry that has an inconsistent problem with overheating. Several months ago I had the thermostat replaced and that seemed to resolve the problem. The car drove fine after that, including on a couple of trips of several hundred miles duration. Then the other night after again driving the car approximately 200 miles I noticed the temperature gauge rise and pulled over to notice low coolant. I have also noticed that if the car sits for several days it will idle roughly when first started and smoke a bit (white smoke) as if it is running very rich. Once it warms up this all disappears and it idles and runs fine with no indication of any tailpipe smoke. Could this be an indication of a blown head gasket? Why would the problem be intermittent? If it is a blown head gasket, what is the probable cost of getting that repaired?
