Engine Mechanical problem

I have a 1992 Toyota Camry, purchased used in Sept 2007. It has over 200k miles and we've had to have an entire exhaust system and other things replaced. Recently it has a knocking noise coming from the engine and when it idles it sounds as though it wants to shut down. What do you think this could be? Secondly, is it worth repairing?

Hi dosnueve,

Not sure what type of knocking noise you are refering to but if the idle is too low and the timing belt tension is slack, there would be some kind of knocking noise too.

The low idling speed is most probably due to a dirty throttle body or faulty MAP sensor. Try cleaning it with carb cleaner to see if it helps.

Worth or not is up to you.
