Engine Performance problem
1992 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 150+ miles

While driving to school my daughter's '92 Camry LE sputtered then died at a stop light. Took her a few tries to get it started again. It continued to sputter a few more times as she drove but hitting the gas kept it from stalling. After school it took her about 3 mins to start the car. As she drove it had the same sputtering problem and died. When I got to her I had the same problem starting the car. I was able to get the car to the garage by throwing the car into neutral and hitting the gas whenever it started to sputter.

Left the car but now the mechanic can't start it. He said the spark plugs were covered with gas so he changed them. He has also checked codes (non came up); fuel pump, injector, filter; timing belt; air hose; all the usual stuff. He says engine is getting too much fuel and flooding. He can't figure out why. He has consulted other mechanics and the internet without success and says what is happening is one of those odd things that is hard to figure out.

The car had been running fine.
