Engine Performance problem
1988 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual
----------------------------------------------------------------
In March of this year my timing belt snapped. I had that fixed. In May I had a new distributor put on the car. Since March, I have had problems with the idle and acceleration. I thought this probem would have been fixed with the work that already been completed. The mechanic told me to try the stuff that cleans up your fuel line and buildup. I have tried that. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Is the engine slow to rev in Park or neutral as well? slow to rev at first but will catch up at higher rpms?He may have missed the cam/crank timing and is off 1 tooth. This will make them slow to accelerate and idle low like you describe

Jack,

You hit the nail on the head. It does exactly what you said. I thought I was losing my mind. And it's funny because when I mentioned it to the shop mechanic (who has worked on my car both times) they never even mentioned that. I have spent over $1500 on those repairs and I did not have that problem before the timing belt snapped. Well, I will talk to them again. They should be able to correct their mistake. Thanks again.
