Electrical problem
1988 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
----------------------------------------------------------------
My battery discharge light is on and the battery drains after a few days, is this a faulty alternator and if so how can I test this out so as not to replace something that is working correctly?

The alternator might not be putting out or the battery is not taking the charge could also be a short ciruit within the electrical system that's draining the battery overnite.

Is there a way for me to tell if the alternator is faulty or to find out if there is a short....the car isn't worth more than $500-$700!

Get a voltmeter read the battery-record the reading then start the car while running record the reading-if the voltage while running is 2volt higher than before you start the car-the alternator is doing its job. Check for short circuit
