Engine hard to start, idles but has a constant miss even at high revs. It completely dies when throttle is pushing down quickly, but does fine if throttle is moved slowly.
Have done the following:
Changed the fuel filter, changed the air filter, checked the dist. cap/rotor/wires (no cracks), used starting fluid to look for vacuum leaks (none found), checked duct from air cleaner to eng (no crracks), Alt/battery good.

Thanks for your ideas,
Joe.

Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
Wet plug wires

Just a follow-up to your great suggestions:

I also checked the spark plugs by removing each one-by-one while it was running - I did notice a change when each one was pulled - can I rule out the plugs/wires?

Is there any way that you can provide more details for all your suggestions or where to go to get the details?

Thank you so much

All the details on checking and testing are in the repair manual if you wish can download it here for a cheaper price-

What you'e doing there by removing the plugwire from the sparkplug is a cylinder/balance test- How old are them plugs and wires-don't know replace it-
