Hi, I have a '84 Toyota Camry that is normally hard to start. I have to give it gas before I turn the ignition, and give it gas as it starts. When I tried to start it last week, I heard a little 'pop' in my engine and it wouldn't start. Seems like the ignition works, and the engine runs for just 1 second, and then it turns off, no matter how much gas I give it. Tried to turn it on again and give it gas, but hear a LOUD pop this time, scared me from tryin to gas it as I turn it on. When I turn the key now, and hear the ignition go off, the engine runs for 2 seconds now, but I hear this sound that is like gas leaking. And this sound dies off and the engine turns off. Please help me, I'm a student, and I want to fix it myself if possible. If not, who/what is my cheapest option to get it diagnosed and fixed?

Hi , well first thing you need to do is find out if the camshaft on top of the eng is turning over with the eng. which if it starts it probably is. next thing remove the timeing belt cover. line the timeing marks up . you will see when you get the cover off where the marks are and you will need a service manual for this car about 20 bucks but a million dollars worth of info.is this car fuel injected or does it have a carb>?

yes you can fix this i will help you,let me know when you find these things out and we will move on to the next diag step. thanks for asking billymac
