About 10K miles ago, my cruise control started working only intermittently and now it does not work at all. I love this vehicle and plan to drive it for many more miles but I sure would like the CC to function. Do others have experience repairing it and if so, what was the problem? Thanks!

Hi jmaxwell,

Thank you for the donation.

There are many possible reasons for the cruise control to stop functioning.

Quite often it is the brake ot clutch switch that is out of adjustment. Check the pedal switch stopper and pedal clearance.

Does the indicator for the cruise control lights up when switch is turned ON?

Yes - the cruise control light does come on. But when I set the CC at cruising speed, nothing happens. It did work intermittently before it died completely.

This indicates the power supply is ok.

Most often the cause of this would be the brake or clutch pedal switch.

Above the brake and clutch pedal there is a switch each. Check if the switches are closing fully when pedal is released. There should be a rubber stopper for pushing the switch pin, if it is worn or missing, the switch would not be working correctly. This would not allow the cruise control to work as the signal to the control unit is that either the clutch or brake pedal is being activated. Pin must be pushed in fully with minimal clearance, there must be clearance though.

Check it out and let me know if that is the cause.

Hi KHLow2008. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANSWERING THIS QUESTION! I was able to fix my cruise control on my Toyota which I was told by the toyota dealership could only be fixed by purchasing a new computer ($2300)! I am so excited to fix it and use it. Thanks again!
