Took in for transmission fluid change, mechanic found
coolant stains from behine EGR valve, front top of
engine to bottom. Says may be head gasket, t/stat,
or housing.
car was in dealer last month for transmission switch
and they basically forced a serpentine belt on me, because it had never been changed. They did not
mention anything about this.
stain is quite visible on front of engine. What are our
options. Would like to keep car, due to negative
equity. Would be hard to buy new one

thanks

Hi Leta,

Thank you for the donation.

Coolant leaks would normally occur on housings, hose joints, water pumps and hoses. It seldom is caused by head gasket unless you have overheating and coolant losses issues.

Problem could be new because if it had been there dor prolonged periods, the radiator would most probably have dried out unless you have been topping up the coolant.

Clean away the coolant stains and do a cooling system pressure test to determine where the leaking is comng from, I believe it should be something not that serious.
