Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Subaru Outback 4 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

I recently noticed my car was overheating a bit and when I checked I saw oil and antifreeze in the collnat reservior tank, naturally I thought the head gasket was bad, I took it to the shop and they evaluated it but found nothing abnormal besides the oil. Antifreeze in the reservior, the said they saw no evidence of coolant in the engine and told me somebody may have poured oil in the reservior tank. Two days later the car overheated again, and I am not sure if this all has to do with the same thing. Could and oil/antifreeze mixup be due to somthing else? IS the overheating due to the same or is that a separate problem?

Check your transmission fluid dipstick, if tranny cooler lines go to the radiator, the internal cooling tank for tranny fluid may have cracked and it's tranny fluid mixing with coolant, This will destroy the clutch plates in the tranny! DO NOT keep driving this car until you figure this out, MUCH more damage can and will happen!
