Air Conditioning problem
2010 Subaru Legacy 4 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic

Have new 2010 Legacy that fails to cool the car. The A/C is set to max cool, fan fast. After sitting in the sun for a few hours, inside temp 120 degrees, the output from the vent at best is about 60 degrees. After running for 40 minutes it brought the cabin temp down to about 90 degrees. The cabin filter is new, the freon/coolant is correct with no leaks per dealer. We even went to another vehicle on the lot and tested it with same thermometer and it did do a little better but not much. Dealer tells me that they changed the A/C this year to a on demand compressor with a sensor that determines cabin temp unlike old compressors with a clutch. Has anyone else noticed the lack of cooling or have any suggestions?

Do you have the re-circulation button pressed.

Yes when the recirculate is on then the temperature will drop to about 56 degrees out of the vent. Still no big difference. Subaru has responded that the A/C is functioning as designed. They suggested to have another dealer check the system out but other than that there is nothing else they can do. I did talk to a few others both on the net and locally that they were not happy with their A//C either but no suggestions to improve it. It appears that if the cabin temp is somwhat cool ie: not 120 degrees then the A/C works better and puts out a lower temp but at 120 degrees in the cabin then the A/C can not drop the temp in a timely fashion nor maintain it. My wife will never by another Subaru! We are looking for a swamp cooler like my dad had in the 59 olds. If any one has one please let me know.

Hi, buffy12590 one thing I would reccomend is getting tinted windows if you don't have them and a shield for your front window when the car is sitting you would be quite suprised how much this will help :)
