Strangest thing, I live in the rust belt but not near the ocean. The wiper arms are heavily pitted between where they bolt to the car and the thin arm that holds the blade. The arm that holds the blade looks great where the half that bolts to the car looks horrible. I was able to fix it by removing the wiper arm, grinding the aluminum more or less smooth, then priming and painting. Was there a recall, hard to believe aluminum would corrode so much, I've never seen anything like it.

Hi there,

common problem, just a case of rubbish material being used, they also do get very sand blasted and they will break down quickly, what you have done is the best option.

Thanks, amazing what a difference quality of materials makes in such a tough environment. Hopefully the paint and primer will protect it for a little while. At least it is an easy cheap fix.

Hi there,

Over the years I have seen this getting worse, trouble is the quality is dropping as the price goes up, a sign of the times we live in I reckon, thank you for the rep points also.

Makes me keep my cars as long as possible, interest (low now), tax, registration, upkeep depreciation.
